About this place
A restored Tujia ethnic minority settlement in Qianjiang straddling the Apeng River, anchored by the Fengyu Bridge — at 658 meters the world's longest covered wooden wind-and-rain bridge, rebuilt after a lightning fire in 2013 and dramatically illuminated at night.
Drifter says
"About 2 hours from Chongqing by high-speed rail to Qianjiang. Walk the bridge's full length — four distinct architectural sections spanning two rivers. Skip the silver jewelry stalls on the main street (mass-produced imports) and focus on eating: find a vendor selling smoked Tujia bacon and local snacks. Evening when the bridge lights up is the best time. Right next to the town is Puhua Underground River — a boat ride through a dark cave system with the 'Eye of Heaven' geological formation overhead. Buy the combo ticket around 100 RMB and do both."
