A former coal mine shaft converted into a high-security Kuomintang secret prison, set deep in the Geleshan hillside with three mountain walls blocking sunlight — now a sobering memorial to the political martyrs held and executed here.

Three sides of mountain, no sunlight, cells that still carry the weight of what happened in them. Free entry, book in advance via 红岩联线 WeChat mini-program. Open 9am to 5pm, closed Mondays. The 20 RMB shuttle connects this with Bai Mansion — combine both into one full day. Even in summer the air inside feels cold."
