About this place

A completely ungentrified working-class neighborhood sitting steps away from the hyper-modern Guanyinqiao commercial district, preserving the raw, layered street ecology of 1980s Chongqing — open-air butcher stalls, mahjong parlors and narrow staircases all tangled together.

Drifter says

"Take Metro Line 3 or 9 to Guanyinqiao Station, Exit 2, then walk about 10 minutes. Hardcore reality check: this neighborhood also harbors a discreet red-light presence — you may notice groups of women waiting outside rundown residential buildings at night. If you're driven by curiosity, this is where the city folds back on itself completely. Female travelers are advised not to explore alone after dark. Chinese streets are generally very safe, but out of respect for residents' privacy, keep your camera low and don't point it directly at people's faces. Just absorb the extreme contrast between this and the glittering mall district one street over."
