A large mountain park in Yubei District with dense pine and cypress forests hiding WWII Nationalist Government Ordnance Department ruins and Ming dynasty temple remains — even in 40-degree summer heat, the mountain stays around 20 degrees, making it the city's best urban escape from the heat.

"Abandon the paved tourist paths and find the trails worn by local tea pickers. Deep in the forest, WWII air-raid tunnel networks and vine-consumed brick barracks are still there — bring a strong flashlight. This is a real jungle history expedition, not a recreated scene. Go deep enough and you have a chance of encountering wild macaques — one of the very few places within the main urban area where that's possible."
