Built in the 1950s, this domed structure modeled on Beijing's Temple of Heaven was named one of Asia's ten most iconic twentieth-century buildings — a physical expression of national-scale architectural ambition.

"The best shot is from the Three Gorges Museum plaza directly opposite — the symmetry from that angle is exact. Early morning brings elderly locals doing Tai Chi in the foreground, which adds something no architectural photo usually has. If you want to experience the interior, tickets are 8 yuan. The museum is right across the street — put them together on the same day."
