About this place

A vast 1980s factory workers' residential community in Jiulongpo, revitalized into an open-air neighborhood block without displacing its original residents — now cited across China as a model for urban renewal done right.

Drifter says

"Metro Line 2 to Yangjiaping Station, walk through Wanxiang City mall to reach it. The reason this works where most urban renewal fails: the original residents stayed. You'll find Banshan Coffee and independent bakeries on the same corner as grandmothers selling vegetables and playing mahjong under the trees. Try the local roasted duck stalls. Best in late afternoon when community life and café culture overlap. Pairs perfectly with a morning at Jianchuan Museum and Destroyer 166 — all in the same Jiulongpo district."
