About this place
The wartime streetscape of 1940s Chongqing reconstructed with cinematic precision — the Guotai Theatre, Xinhua Trust building and blue-brick Western facades rebuilt at full scale, exactly as they stood when this city was China's provisional capital.
Drifter says
"Rent a tailored Republican-era zhongshan suit or a high-collar qipao from the shops near the entrance before you go in. Walk into the alleys plastered with yellowed wartime posters, and when the air-raid siren sound effects go off on schedule, you won't need any imagination — the spy thriller atmosphere pulls you in automatically. Best in early morning when the light is soft, or at dusk when the sunset warms the brick facades. Entry is ticketed during the day but free after 5:30pm. Budget three hours to absorb it properly. Pairs well with Longxing Ancient Town nearby into a half-day route."
