About this place

A vast underground shopping labyrinth built in the early 2000s beneath a large public square, preserving the complete aesthetic of early Chinese commercial mall culture from that era in almost perfectly intact form.

Drifter says

"Take Metro Line 9 to Huarongqiao Station and walk across the bridge, or take a short taxi. Most shops open in the afternoon — mornings are quiet. This is not a luxury shopping destination. Walking its endless subterranean corridors is genuinely fascinating as a time capsule of early 2000s Chinese retail culture — the Y2K aesthetic is completely unintentional and entirely real."
