Perched on Nanshan's Yaoyingyan peak, this 22-meter gilded eagle sculpture was built in 1998, its surface clad in 32 tons of copper panels and covered in 24-karat gold leaf — a landmark engineering statement on the mountain's highest accessible summit.

"The real play is climbing inside. The eagle is hollow, and a extremely narrow spiral staircase takes you all the way up to the crown observation deck at head height. From eye level with a giant golden eagle, the Yangtze, Jialing River and the entire Nanshan pine forest fall into a single panoramic frame — a wider view than any of the lower observatories below. Clear days only; fog turns the whole experience into a white void."
