A thousand-year-old Jialing River trading port that once served as Chongqing's most important goods distribution hub, preserving original Ming and Qing dynasty timber-frame architecture and steep stone-paved lanes — the main street is now heavily commercialized, but the back alleys remain.

"Take Metro Line 1 to Ciqikou Station. Arrive before 9am or skip the main street entirely and head straight for the back alleys toward Baolun Temple. Find an old teahouse, order a gaiwan tea for a few yuan and sit down — that's when the ancient town delivers what it promises. Hidden move: from the riverside dock at Ciqikou you can board a river bus downstream directly to the Chaotianmen and Hongya Cave area, linking two of Chongqing's most iconic destinations by water instead of fighting traffic."
