About this place

A massive modern reconstruction of a traditional Miao ethnic minority architectural complex built across a hillside in Pengshui — dozens of interconnected wooden structures built without nails, designed to resemble a sprawling mountain fortress from a different civilization entirely.

Drifter says

"No high-speed rail to Pengshui yet — take a regular train (K or W series) from Chongqing North Station, about 2.5 hours. Come at dusk when thousands of traditional red lanterns illuminate the entire complex. On the ground floor throughout the buildings, real Miao women are often working on silver jewelry or embroidery — the whole complex is modern-built but these craft demonstrations are completely genuine. One of the most visually arresting built environments in Chongqing municipality."
