About this place

A bookstore built inside a 45-meter WWII-era air-raid shelter tunnel in Huangjueping, housing 20,000 books organized by Chongqing's 38 districts and counties — run by a man called Brother Jun who has spent decades rescuing old street signs, maps and artifacts from demolished neighborhoods before they disappeared forever.

Drifter says

"Take Metro Line 18 to Sichuan Fine Arts Institute Station or Dianchang Station, then walk toward Huangjueping Railway Village No. 5. The entrance is off a graffiti-covered alley. Open roughly 1pm to 10pm. Walk into the tunnel: one half is floor-to-ceiling bookshelves organized by district, the other half is left as bare cave. Order a gaiwan tea for 10 RMB and sit down. Brother Jun is usually at the entrance playing chess — even with zero shared language he'll show you the old street signs and hand-drawn maps of Chongqing neighborhoods that no longer exist. This is the most Chongqing place in Chongqing."
